Yazoo clay and Delta soils can stay wet for long periods, so site contours need attention before a slab area, camp road, or landscape project moves forward. Fill Dirt can build up a low section, return material around an excavation, or create the broad grade needed for drainage planning. With little organic material, it is better suited to this ground-shaping work than soil selected for lawns or garden beds.
For a pad on heavy clay, place Fill Dirt in the planned contour and compact it as work progresses to form a firm subgrade. The finished surface should shed rainfall instead of holding it near the pad, particularly where wet soil already changes under seasonal conditions. Once the grade is complete, topsoil can be added over areas intended for planting.

Common Uses
Site Grading & Preparation
On building sites, home lots, and commercial ground, fill dirt is used to set the required grade. It helps shape drainage slopes, establish building locations, and form the planned landscape contours.
Foundation Backfill
Place compactable fill dirt at foundations, retaining walls, and structures below grade. Because it contains little organic matter, it does not break down and settle the way organic-heavy soil can, so the backfill continues to support the work.
Raising Low Areas
Add fill dirt where low ground holds water, turns muddy, or drains poorly. Raising the grade moves runoff away from structures and occupied areas to address recurring wet conditions.
Hole & Void Filling
Bulk fill dirt can go into old pools, unused basements, excavation openings, and large holes. Once compacted, it forms firm subgrade for the next use, including construction work or a new lawn.
Why Choose Fill Dirt
Cost-Effective Material for Bulk Fills
For high-volume grading or fill jobs that do not need topsoil-grade material, fill dirt is an affordable earthwork option. It lets the grading and filling work go further within the project budget.
Firm Compaction
Fill dirt's mineral soil content can be compacted into a firm mass that limits later settlement. That support matters below structures, pavement, and soil placed above it.
Stable Fill Material
With minimal organic matter, fill dirt is less prone to the decomposition and shrinkage associated with organic soils. Properly prepared grades can remain firm through the project.
Multi-Use Earthwork Fill
Fill dirt serves rough grading, backfill, and void placement before construction or landscaping continues. It provides the base grade for the work installed above it.
