A common mistake on wet Mississippi ground is using coarse stone where a closed driving surface is needed. #2 Crushed Stone is not meant to tighten into that kind of finish. Its large angular pieces stay coarse after placement, and washing removes the fine material that could fill the open spaces. This behavior makes sense for construction entrances, drainage work, culvert areas, and heavy base layers beneath pads or access routes.
Yazoo clay and Delta soils can retain water, so the finished grade should direct runoff away from the work area. Build a pad up where wet conditions call for added separation from the ground, then keep #2 Crushed Stone in the supporting layer below the finished surface. For a hunting camp road or drainage route, it can line a ditch or support the lower portion of an access base. Cover it with an appropriate surface material if the goal is a smoother drive for routine travel.

Common Uses
Site Entrance Pads
Place a deep layer of large angular stone at the point where a work site joins the road to help shed mud from departing truck tires.
Culvert & Ditch Lining
Use heavy stone at culvert outlets and in drainage ditches where runoff gathers, helping the pieces remain in place.
Heavy Base Layers
Use beneath finer aggregate where soft ground, farm lanes, or equipment pads need an initial layer.
Drainage Courses
The broad voids between pieces allow substantial water movement away from the work area.
Why Choose #2 Crushed Stone
Stays Put
Its larger, weighty stones help reduce tire ruts and movement under traffic.
Rapid Drainage
With the fines removed, open voids between the stones let water pass freely.
Supports Soft Ground
Large angular pieces distribute loads over damp or weak subgrade.
Limited Upkeep
After installation, maintenance is generally limited to occasional additional material.
